It is the birthplace of country, jazz, blues, rock and roll and gospel music. These types of music have all been influenced by Mississippi. People such as Elvis Presley, Jimmie Rogers, Tammy Wynette, Muddy Waters and Jerry Lee Lewis called Mississippi their birthplace. Many more people that became musical pioneers first came from this state. Mississippi is full of music that is played everywhere in the state. All kinds of different musicians play their music in various venues statewide. Regarding the history of Mississippi the territory was organized in 1798 and in 1817 making Mississippi the 20th state in the Union. The Farmers of Mississippi found rich soil, so the cotton industry became a major industry for the state. This state has been a big scene for many historical changes being good and bad all through the civil war and through the civil rights movement. This state comes with many cultural surprises like southern traditions, historic events and a musical haven for many. This state offers plenty of outdoor recreation, hospitality and many other wonderful things.
