Tips for a Happy Student Life in CollegeBy Phoenix Delray Student life at a college or university is a life altering experience that many would gladly go back to if they could. The stereotypical student life on campus involves parties, co ed dorms, and yes, some studying. There is a lot more to gain than that on a college campus, and there are some tips you should take into account to make sure that you are getting the most from your university not only in your studies, but in your social life as well. First of all, the number one tip to remember is that student life is incredibly diverse for a reason: It is a lot of fun. College is where the bridge is crossed between childhood and adulthood, and there are loads of all kinds of people that you should make an effort to expose yourself to for cultural and social learning and variety. Often, especially during the first year of student life on campus, there is a lot of excitement and anxiety when it comes to meeting other students. However, engaging in activities that involves people other than your high school peers can open up doors to possibilities that you never may have even thought of. Next, keep in mind that student life on campus is what you make it. If you are lonely, but choose to stay in your dorm room for weeks at a time, the chances that other students will be able to help you feel better are pretty slim. If you are afraid of student life on campus because of the dreaded Freshman 15, go to the campus gym or skip some things from the dorm dining room. Dont keep being miserable week after week while you sit in your room eating Doritos and ice cream. With great student life comes great opportunity. Opportunity to feel included, opportunity to join a fraternity or sorority, an opportunity to play intramural volleyball since you werent good enough to make the high school team. If you find that you are lacking some school spirit, be sure that you attend the next pep rally or tailgate party before the big game. Paint your face with the school colors. Dont sit in your dorm room by yourself watching the game on your 13 black and white TV with rabbit ears. The whole point is that student life on campus will reflect your attitude about being on campus. If you are shy and withdrawn, chances are that your life on campus will be studying, laundry, and eating. It is important on campus that you get out there, step outside of your comfort zone, and have a good time. Four years go by fast, and when it is all said and done and you are in your high rise office in your business suit thinking about college, you want to be sure that the thought of the student life that you were a part of brings a big smile to your educated face.
