Understanding Menopause and AcneBy Lance Thorington There are many signs and symptoms of menopause and while most women have educated themselves about them, there are still many surprises that can occur when you are dealing with menopause. There are many symptoms of menopause that are absolutely terrible and a few that are just uncomfortable, night sweats, hot flashes and weight gain are a few of the worst symptoms, while menopause acne is normally just uncomfortable to deal with. Some other signs may include hair less, hair thinning and severe mood swings, while these are all tricky to handle, so is menopause and acne. Acne, while it is uncomfortable to deal with, it can also tie into depression and eventually a distorted self image. There are many people that have to deal with acne on a daily basis, but when you are going through menopause and dealing with having acne on top of it all, it can be a bit overbearing. Roughly, ten percent of woman who are going through menopause will end up having acne. If acne itself was just a zit or pimple once in a while, it would not ruin peoples self esteem - acne itself it actually a skin condition and can be treated. Remember when you were a teenager and going through puberty? Well, think of your acne being worse than that without treatment. There are many things that can contribute as to why a woman who is going through menopause will end up with acne. Hormones are the main culprit though. When going through menopause, your hormone levels are absolutely all over the place. When a woman is going through menopause, their estrogen levels will decline drastically and eventually, when a woman enters post menopause, the body will stop produce estrogen all together. With that being said, acne popping up on a woman that did not normally have acne is not uncommon at all, it is just a normal reaction your body is making due to the lack of estrogen. Although your hormone levels decreasing and increasing are one of the main reasons as to why you should get acne during menopause, your sebaceous glands are also to blame. These glands are there to produce oil for your skin, this oil is also called sebum. When your hormone levels change, this causes these glands to produce more oil, which in turn brings along dead skin cells, dirt and a lot of other debris - which is exactly what causes those terrible acne breakouts. Now about those treatments we mentioned above. Take care of your skin is step number one, make sure to keep your flesh hydrated and smooth - do not place any oil on it though for anymore oil will cause more breakouts. Natural skin products will most likely be the best to help with your skin, specifically items that contain vitamins B and C. Also, making sure you are eating healthy and drinking a lot of water. Keeping your body hydrated will help it fight the battle again acne and all other skin blemishes.
