Are You Really Sitting Comfortably?By Musa Aykac Most of us work sitting in front of a computer or screen nowadays - it's the default work position for the bulk of human beings in the 21st Century. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with that; even celebrities like the late Peter Ustinov claimed to have wanted to volunteer for the Tank Corps during the Second World War so they could go into battle sitting down! However, remaining seated for long periods of time is not what the human body was built for. If you want to avoid aggravating existing problems or creating new ones, then some thought should be given to using and adjusting the correct type of office chair. Ergonomically designed office or task seating need not be unattractive either, and aesthetic design is just as important a consideration as form and function. There are some general rules that should be followed for any office chair. The height should be adjusted so that your forearms are parallel to or slightly sloping down towards the keyboard. Your shoulders should feel relaxed and your knees should be slightly lower than your hips. Your feet should be in contact with the floor and the small of the back should be supported to help preserve the natural curve of the spine.
