Network Marketing: Can Anybody Really Do It?By Gregory McGuire Normally I'm not one to state the obvious, but the network marketing industry is booming. I guess in these uncertain economic times, people are looking to exercise more control over their future than a job can provide. Unfortunately, many companies and individuals prey on others who are looking for serious ways to make money. These companies make it seem like money will just flow to you, once you join their organization. Everywhere these days I see claims of 'Easy Money!' and 'Retire in 60 Days!' I find it sad. So are the claims true? Is network marketing easy money? Let me just answer with a loud, emphatic, NO. Simple? Yes. But easy? Far from it. When the ads say things like 'Anybody can do this business,' they're only partly true. Yes, anybody CAN do this business, but not just anybody WILL do this business. I see an example of this every time I check my downline. Even though my team has a fool proof system in place, only about 1 in 20 who enroll even give it a try! And it's extremely simple. So, why don't these people stick around? Mostly, I've found that it's a lack of belief in themselves. Even though they want the lifestyle we talk about, they can't accept the fact that they can create it. Soon they start treating their business like a hobby, get bored, and quit. Unfortunately, most network marketing companies provide little help in this area. Their training usually consists of little more than telling people to make a list of their warm market and talk the business up to everybody they come into contact with. So, what exactly do network marketers do? Well, we network and we market. It really is that simple, only usually it's the marketing that comes first. Marketing just means advertising. Getting the word out about what you're doing. The networking is where the magic happens. This is forming relationships with people. It's finding out what they really want and helping them to achieve it. The relationship make the difference between network marketing and regular sales. It's not a one-time transaction. I don't make money until my downline makes money. It truly is a team effort. Yes, there exist those individuals who strong arm unsuspecting souls into joining their businesses. They're usually a sales-type, who talk fast handle your objections seamlessly. They treat you like you're stupid if you don't sign up. The best thing you can do when you encounter these guys is to walk away fast. Hang up the phone and hold onto your wallet. On the other hand, if you find the right team of people to work with, you seriously can live the life you've always dreamed of, if you stick with it long enough to learn the ropes. How do you know if you're on the right team? Your downline should be calling you at least twice a week. You should have some idea about what to do on a daily basis. If neither of these are true, then perhaps it's time to start looking around. Yes, network marketing does work, but you've got to put a lot into it. Only you can decide if it's worth it.
